Trucking Says Fuel Taxes Already Pay for Roads

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>Southern California transportation officials said they were evaluating five proposals to rehabilitate an 18-mile stretch of the Long Beach Freeway, three of which would include dedicated truck toll lanes to pay for major construction.

The plans drew a sharp response from trucking.

“We are vehemently opposed to tolling,” said Stephanie Williams, vice president of the California Trucking Associations, in a telephone interview with Transport Topics. “We already paid for these road through fuel taxes.”
