ridgestone Firestone North American Tire said it would raise tire prices for trucks and other vehicles by as much as 8% to counter the persistent increases in the cost of petroleum, steel, chemicals for rubber processing, polymers and utilities.

The new prices for truck and bus tires would take effect May 1, the company said.

It was Bridgestone’s second price hike this year, following increases of up to 7% on Jan. 1. Rivals Michelin North America and Goodyear Tire and Rubber followed by raising their prices 6%, also in the first quarter.

Those companies declined to comment on future pricing plans.
