fficials in the Washington, D.C. area are again warning motorists, including truckers, to avoid a key bridge crossing over the Potomac River on Interstate 495 this weekend.

The Wilson Bridge Project, which is building a new span over the river south of the nation’s capital, warned southbound travelers on the Maryland side of the Potomac to find alternate routes on I-495, also known as the Capital Beltway.

Work is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Friday and continue to as late as 5 a.m. on Monday.

About 17,000 trucks use the bridge each day. Last month, officials warned of long delays because of similar work on the Beltway’s Virginia side of the river, though that work finished ahead of schedule.
