BNSF Reports Higher 1Q Income, Record Revenue

urlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. Thursday reported first-quarter net earnings of $321 million or 83 cents a share, up from $193 million or 52 cents a year earlier.

The earnings beat analysts’ expectations of 73 cents a share, Bloomberg reported. Burlington Northern is the parent of western railroad BNSF Railway Co.

First-quarter freight revenue rose by $451 million, or 18%, to $2.9 billion, an all-time record, the company said in a statement. In March revenue exceeded $1 billion for the first time in the railroad’s history.



Consumer products, which include intermodal movements, rose 22% to $202 million for the quarter, BNSF said.
