Bipartisan Policy Center Kicks Off Slew of Infrastructure Week Events May 16

A battery of in-depth and meaningful events looking at the shabby state of the country’s infrastructure kicks off May 16 with a forum hosted by the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington, D.C.

Jason Grumet, president of the Bipartisan Policy Center, will be joined by Doug Peterson, president and CEO of McGraw Hill Financial, and Susan Story, president and CEO of American Water, for a panel discussion on infrastructure investment.

From May 16 through May 20, dozens of think tanks, trade associations and academic research institutions will host events aimed at figuring out ways to assist agencies in fixing crumbling roads, bridges and tunnels. During this Infrastructure Week, stakeholders will share insight about the challenges they face in funding large-scale super bridges resilient to severe weather.

“Strong infrastructure is the foundation of a strong economy. It can be easy to take the American infrastructure system for granted, but our nation’s companies and their employees rely on high-quality highways, airports, waterways, power and broadband to do their work and do it efficiently,” said Thomas Donohue, president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. His group is coordinating Infrastructure Week.

Last year, the weeklong event featured a keynote address from Vice President Joseph Biden and lectures by Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx, former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (D) and myriad lawmakers and experts.

The American Society of Civil Engineers recently determined the status of the country’s overall infrastructure to be near failing.
