Dayton Freight Lines Adds Memphis Service

Less-than-truckload carrier Dayton Freight Lines has opened a new terminal in Memphis, Tennessee, to expand its service offerings.

Operations by the carrier that ranks No. 64 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers, began Jan.18 at the 32-door facility on 7 acres.

Anthony Rocco, vice president of operations at Dayton, told TT the carrier’s 49th terminal was added in response to customers’ requests to service the city, which is a major distribution hub.

Rocco said Dayton plans to add service in Nashville, Tennessee, on Feb. 8, and establish a terminal there.

Dayton’s expansion will enhance a long-standing service partnership with Southeastern Freight Lines, another LTL carrier, by establishing operations in cities served by both carriers, Rocco said. Service expansions by both carriers were made through mutual agreement, he said, including Southeastern’s move into Kentucky and Dayton’s expansion into Tennessee.

Dayton began service in Memphis after renovating a terminal purchased last year.
