Garmin Introduces New Navigation Devices

Garmin International Inc.

Garmin International Inc. announced plans to launch two new Android-based commercial navigation devices.

The Fleet 660, for local-service fleets, and the Fleet 670, for longhaul trucking fleets, include Garmin’s latest navigation technology, including voice-activated navigation and active lane guidance with voice prompts.

The Android platform enables fleets to integrate customized applications for signature capture, work orders or inspection reports, Garmin said.

“The Fleet 660 and 670 are our first fleet products that combine trusted Garmin navigation and hardware with the flexibility of Android,” Chad Sallman, senior business development manager for commercial solutions, said in the Aug. 20 announcement.

The Fleet 670 offers trucking-specific functions such as route calculation based on truck attributes, trucking points of interest, hours-of-service logging and fuel-tax documentation.

The Fleet 660 and 670 hardware features a sunlight readable, 6-inch touch screen.

Both devices are expected to become available in the fourth quarter. Suggested retail prices are $400 for the Fleet 660 and $450 for the Fleet 670.
