YRC Freight, the national trucking unit of YRC Worldwide, said it has completed streamlining its less-than-truckload network to accelerate service on all major U.S. freight lanes, a move intended to enhance service.
YRC said the step will accelerate transit times on more than 24,000 freight lanes, part of an effort to move more freight directly from origin to destination areas that was announced earlier this year.
The moves will result in what the company said would be reduced handling for 700,000 shipments.
Among the improvements that have been made are shaving one day off shipments from Charlotte, N.C., to Seattle, a trip that is now four days instead of five, while Indianapolis to Los Angeles now is a three-day trip, from a previous four.
Other improvements include Milwaukee to Tampa, Fla., a one-day reduction to two days; and Denver to Salt Lake City, which is now an overnight trip.
YRC Worldwide is ranked No. 4 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
