.S. orders for durable goods rose 3.3% in August, more than analysts had expected, the Commerce Department said Wednesday.

Orders of goods made to last at least three years rose to $210.9 billion, Commerce said. Analysts had expected a 0.7% increase, Bloomberg reported.

Trucking is a major beneficiary of durable goods manufacturing, hauling both components and finished goods.

The gain followed a revised 5.3% drop in July that had originally been reported as a 4.9% drop.

Excluding transportation orders, August orders rose 4.2%, Commerce said. Economists had predicted a decline of 1%, Bloomberg reported.
