ATRI Launches Carrier Survey on HOS Rule

The American Transportation Research Institute is soliciting input from trucking companies on the effects of the latest changes to the federal government’s hours-of-service rule for truck drivers.

ATRI launched a similar effort aimed at truck drivers earlier in September, asking them about the effects of the rule changes that took effect July 1.

“The response to the driver survey has been tremendous thus far, and we likewise expect a lot of interest from motor carriers in documenting how they have changed their operations to fit the new rules,” ATRI President Rebecca Brewster said in a Sept. 25 statement.

Previous ATRI research on the hours-of-service changes estimated that they will cost $189 million a year — a $322 million difference from the $133 million benefit that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration estimated.

The survey is available on ATRI's website, www.atri-online.org.
