merican Trucking Associations said Tuesday it filed a request with the Department of Transportation to be included as a stakeholder in a rulemaking advisory committee on commercial driver license security enhancements.

DOT is setting up the committee to implement requirements established by the 9/11 Commission Report Implementation Act of 2004.

If included, ATA said it would be the primary trucking industry representative on the committee with support from a number of trucking industry groups including the Truckload Carriers Association, the National Private Truck Council, the Intermodal Motor Carriers Conference, and others.

The DOT initiative could become moot if a House bill, the Real ID Act of 2005, is passed and becomes law, ATA said.
