American Trucking Associations said proposed Department of Transportation regulations to enhance the security of hazardous material shipments would be ineffective to prevent a terrorist from turning a cargo vehicle into a weapon of mass destruction.

ATA’s comments were among several that trucking groups submitted that were mainly critical of hazmat rules that DOT’s Research and Special Programs Administration has proposed.

RSPA’s proposal “will do little to prevent a determined terrorist from attacking,” ATA said.
