merican Trucking Associations on Monday said it supported the Virginia Department of Transportation’s decision not to build truck-only toll lanes along Interstate 81.

VDOT had been considering a plan under which vehicles traveling in the proposed truck-only lanes would have paid tolls starting at 37 cent a mile to use the 325-mile highway, ATA said in a statement.

Last Friday, VDOT abandoned its plans for the truck-only lanes after studies revealed that future traffic estimates for the numbers of cars and trucks on I-81 did not support building a separate roadway for trucks. (Click here for previous coverage.)
