eavy-duty components maker ArvinMeritor Inc. said Tuesday it has entered into a joint venture with Chinese company First Auto Works to produce commercial vehicle brakes.

The partnership has been approved by both companies’ boards and is waiting on standard government approvals, ArvinMeritor said in a statement. It provided no dollar figure for the deal.

The arrangement calls for ArvinMeritor to provide air disc brakes and automatic slack adjusters to the Chinese company.

It said it would make 90,000 brakes at a new manufacturing facility in china when it reaches normal production levels. The brakes will be both for Chinese domestic markets and exports.

First Auto Works was founded in 1953 in northeastern China.
