In Arkansas, Mark Pryor vs. Tom Cotton: Why You Should Care

Each day this week, three times per day, Transport Topics reporter Eugene Mulero looks at one of 15 key congressional races that affect transportation interests, and explains Why You Should Care.

Today: Arkansas' U.S. Senate race – Democratic incumbent Mark Pryor vs. Republican challenger Tom Cotton.

Democrat Mark Pryor, the self-described “friend of trucking,” supports long-term transportation funding measures aimed at upgrading infrastructure around the country. He also backed efforts in the Senate this year to suspend the new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration hours-of-service “restart” rule, a position endorsed by American Trucking Associations. Pryor’s opponent, freshman Republican Rep. Tom Cotton, has portrayed him as a strong Obama administration supporter. That anti-Obama rhetoric has resonated with voters in the Natural State, boosting Cotton’s chances to take down the incumbent. Cotton supports building the Keystone XL pipeline, and he has vowed to limit the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s regulatory authority.
