Arkansas Best Reports Improved 2Q Earnings

rkansas Best, parent of less-than-truckload carrier ABF Freight System, said Monday it earned $23.4 million or 91 cents a share in the second quarter, up from $19.3 million or 76 cents for the same quarter last year.

The company’s revenue rose to $456.7 million, from $424.5 million last year.

ABF Freight System’s revenue was $417.5 million, a per-day increase of 6.8% over the same period last year, the company said. Its second-quarter tonnage-per-day fell 3.4% year-over year.



The company’s Clipper intermodal and freight forwarding unit’s revenue rose 15% to $28.8 million for the quarter.

Arkansas Best is ranked No. 17 on the Transport Topics 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian trucking companies.
