Class 8 truck orders rose 5% in April as demand for new equipment continued to increase from year-ago levels, ACT Research Co. said.

North American truck makers received 24,400 net orders last month, up from 23,228 in April 2013, according to the firm’s preliminary data.

However, the April tally fell 11% from the 27,410 orders placed in March.

Although orders continued to rise on a year-over-year basis, the pace of that growth has slowed compared with recent months.

Net orders rose by 51% in December and January, by 30% in February and by 24.5% in March.

Through the first four months, manufacturers have received 115,533 new orders, a 27.5% gain from the 90,604 booked in the same timeframe in 2013.
