merican Airlines’ cargo division said Friday it is raising its fuel surcharges on both domestic and international shipments, effective Oct. 26.

The airline is raising its domestic surcharge rate to 24 cents a pound from 22 cents, and to 60 cents a kilogram (about 27 cents a pound) from 55 cents a kilogram (25 cents a pound) for most U.S.-origin international shipments.

The fuel surcharges will be applied, in local currency for most non-U.S.-origin shipments, unless the adjustment is not allowed for regulatory reasons.

Other changes include the addition of two new trigger points to the fuel index to help in projecting future increases, and an increase to $4 from $3 per shipment in the surcharge minimum associated with American's Priority Parcel Service product.
