February sales of the Class 8 models used in over-the-road freight operations totaled 8,124 units, down from 8,481 a year earlier when they were already declining almost 21%, according to Ward’s Communications.

“The truck market is very weak due to the general economic weakness,” said Mack Trucks spokesman Robert Martin.

“We’re seeing that very evidently in the vocational and heavy-duty truck market. It’s a tough time in the economy in general and the heavy-duty market specifically,” Martin said.
