Allied Holdings Reports Higher 4Q Loss

uto hauler Allied Holdings Inc. reported a net fourth-quarter loss of $33.4 million or $3.75 per share, compared with a loss of $4.3 million or 51 cents per share for the same quarter the previous year.

Allied said the increased losses were due to higher insurance maintenance, auditing, accounting and fuel costs.

Revenues for the quarter were $238.8 million, compared with $224.7 million the previous year, the company said in its 10-K annual filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.



For the full year the company had a loss of $53.9 million or $6.15 a share, compared with a loss of $8.6 million or $1.02 for 2003.

Its stockholder equity dropped to negative $41.5 million at the end of 2004 from $8.8 million at the end of 2003, the 10-K report said.

Allied is ranked No. 22 on the Transport Topics 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian trucking companies.
