oftware company ALK Technologies said it released a new version of CoPilot Live, a software package for truck drivers who use mobile phones and personal digital assistants.

The new software package can be used with a variety of wireless devices from companies such as Cingular Wireless and T-Mobile, ALK said.

In addition, the software can function on several operating systems from Microsoft Corp.

ALK, Princeton, N.J., said that CoPilot Live 6.0 allows drivers to have turn-by-turn voice guidance. It also allows drivers a variety of address entry options and includes detailed street maps.

ALK said that if a driver does not follow the directions provided by the software, CoPilot Live will recalculate the new route instantly.

In addition, the company said it will offer a complete map of North America on a one-gigabyte memory card.

There are several ways that drivers can customize CoPilot to meet specific needs, according to the company. Drivers can use the software to avoid certain road types, to adjust speed information for better trip planning and to account for situations such as rush hours.
