ir cargo shipments increased 2.4% in June compared with a year earlier, with both domestic and international shipments increasing, the Air Transport Association reported Tuesday.

Air cargo shipments always have a trucking component, since air carriers use trucks for local and regional ground transportation.

Domestic shipments rose 0.7%, while international air cargo increased 4%, the trade group said in its monthly report.

The combined 2.4% increase followed a 3.8% year-over-year decline in May.

Overall June cargo shipments grew to 2.1 billion revenue ton-miles from the same time last year. A revenue ton-mile is the revenue generated by carrying one ton of freight one mile.

International freight and express shipments across the Pacific grew 6.2% and for the Atlantic increased 3.8% in June, the group said. Latin American freight and express shipments fell 3.9%.
