Trucking supplier Accuride Corp. reported 19% higher net income from continuing operations of $6.1 million, or 13 cents per share for the second quarter, helped by stronger industry demand in its wheels segment.

Accuride, which is based in Evansville, Indiana, raised sales 2.1% to $185.4 million from last year’s second quarter, when earnings were $5.1 million or 11 cents.

Sales in the wheels segment rose 13% while the Gunite brake drum unit’s sales fell 2.7% because of price reductions linked to lower raw materials costs.

Going forward, stronger demand for aftermarket aluminum wheels and brake drums is expected.

“North American commercial vehicle industry conditions remained robust in the second quarter, with truck and trailer production continuing to increase at a healthy pace,” the statement said. “Fleets are generally optimistic about current industry conditions, despite some driver-shortage constraints.”
