ABF, Teamsters Extend Contract Through Oct. 29

ABF Freight System said it has agreed to extend its contract with the Teamsters union while the parties work to resolve two supplemental agreements before a new deal is finalized.

The sides — which have agreed to monthlong extensions of their existing contract for each of the past few months — agreed to extend their contract through Oct. 29, ABF parent company Arkansas Best Corp. said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

The company and the union agreed to a contract in June covering more than 7,000 workers at less-than-truckload ABF, Arkansas Best Corp.’s largest business unit.

Since then, the Teamsters’ rank-and-file membership has approved the contract and five of seven supplemental agreements.

Arkansas Best Corp. is ranked No. 12 on the Transport Topics Top 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
