ABF Freight, Saia Report Increase in Tonnage

ABF Freight's tonnage per day increased in the quarter to date, and Saia Inc. reported its less-than-truckload tonnage per day climbed 7.6% in July compared with the same month last year.

Saia said the figure was adjusted for July 5, which fell on a Friday last year. The company also reported August LTL tonnage per day increased 7.2% compared with the same period in 2013.

Saia ranks No. 25 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers based on revenue.

ABF's, tonnage increased 6% in the quarter through the end of August from the same period last year, and billed revenue rose 10% year over year, Bloomberg News reported.



ABF's parent company, ArcBest Corp, based in Little Rock, Arkansas, and No. 13 on the TT100, said billed revenue for that period increased 4%.
