Aasche Expands Waste Hauling Unit

Aasche Transportation Services, Shannon, Ill., expanded its waste hauling business with two recent transactions.

Aasche’s waste transportation subsidiary, Specialty Transportation Services of Portage, Ind., acquired assets in the Phoenix area from Ary Brothers Trucking of Canon City, Colo.

STS also signed a three year agreement with Pima Gro Systems, a division of Synagro Technology, to transport biosolids, sewage sludge and related materials from treatment plants to farms and other locations in Southern California.

Terms were not disclosed for either transaction.

In conjunction with the Ary acquisition, STS signed a long-term contract with Waste Management to haul municipal solid waste from transfer stations to landfills in Maricopa County, Ariz.

A spokesman for Ary Brothers said his company will concentrate on hauling road gravel and asphalt.

n a related development, STS signed a new credit agreement with Mellon Bank, adding the participation of American National Bank & Trust Co. of Chicago and increasing its borrowing capacity from $6 million to $18 million.

American National Bank is the lead banker for Aasche Transportation, which also operates refrigerated carrier Asche Transfer.

STS President Gary I. Goldberg said the expanded credit line will allow the company to pursue growth opportunities in the waste transport business.

“We view biosolid transport services as a natural extension of our business,” he said in commenting on the new contract in California. “STS has become a full-service waste transportation company. Our transportation expertise extends from municipal solid waste to recyclables, green waste compost, industrial waste, scrap metals, ash and now sludges.”
