XATANET Adds Proof-of-Delivery Functions

Mobile communications and software provider Xata Corp. said it has added proof-of-delivery functionality to its flagship XATANET fleet operations software.

The integration allows the application to import delivery confirmation and inventory data gathered by third-party applications running on handheld computers, Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Xata said.

As a result, a driver dropping off a load can collect signatures and record changes in inventory levels on a handheld, then synch the handheld with an in-cab computer that relays the data to a carrier’s back office via XATANET.

XATANET currently supports only proof-of-delivery software published by Systems Application Engineering of Houston. On the hardware side, the integration supports only handheld computers manufactured by the former Symbol Technologies, which was acquired last year by Motorola Inc.

Xata said it will add support for hardware and software from other vendors, though it did not provide a timetable for those integrations.
