World Distribution Services plans to spend $6.2 million to renovate a warehouse facility near the Port of Virginia in Norfolk.

The project is expected to create 35 jobs and 320,000 square feet of warehouse space to serve retail, manufacturing, and food and beverage industries, according to a news release issued by WDS on April 18.

Cleveland-based WDS manages 1 million square feet of warehousing space with four locations in Ohio and other facilities near major ports along the Eastern Seaboard.

The new facility in Virginia Beach will more than double WDS’ current warehousing space in Virginia, said Taylor Adams, interim economic development director of the Virginia Beach Development Authority, which is providing a grant of $35,000 for WDS to aid the project.

The facility is expected to open in March.

Also collaborating with WDS on the project is Lingerfelt Commonwealth Partners, a real estate investment firm based in Richmond, Va. — Transport Topics
