UPS Inc. announced that its pilots, who are members of the Independent Pilots Association, have ratified a labor agreement that is in force until at least Sept. 1, 2021.

The result of balloting among 2,579 pilots in IPA showed 92% approved. Nearly 99% of eligible union members cast ballots, said the announcement from UPS Airlines, based in Louisville, Kentucky.

"We are happy that our crewmembers have accepted this win-win contract offer,” UPS Airlines President Brendan Canavan said. "Together, we have succeeded in taking care of both our people’s needs and our business objectives."

The company statement said the agreement includes an immediate 15% increase, 3% annual wage increases during the contract and changes in crew rest periods that include reductions in duty-period limits for long flights.

Other UPS union workers in the package and freight industry are Teamsters.

The Atlanta-based company is ranked No. 1 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.

The pilots work under the terms of the Railway Labor Act, whose contracts remain in force until they are amended and do not have fixed expiration dates.
