Petro Selects SiriComm as Wi-Fi Provider

Technology firm SiriComm Inc. said Monday it had been chosen by Petro Stopping Centers to install the SiriComm’s Wi-Fi “hot spot” platform for wireless Internet access.

Petro operates a nationwide chain of 64 full-service truck-stop travel plazas.



SiriComm is an applications service provider and nationwide broadband wireless network operator serving the highway transportation industry.

The company said its hot spots are installed at more than 300 locations around the country, with existing agreement that will extend to over 700 sites, including Petro, Pilot Travel Centers, Love's Travel Stops, and other facilities. Transport Topics


Oracle Updates Transportation Software

Software firm Oracle Corp. said it has released a new version of a transportation software package for logistics companies that was was originally developed by Global Logistics Technology, which Oracle acquired in September.

Known as Oracle Transportation Management, the new package allows users to integrate the software with other offerings from Oracle, the company said.

As a result, users can “rely on flexible operations that adapt to changing markets and shifts in customer demand,” said John Chorley, Oracle’s vice president for product strategy.

Biodiesel Firm Gets Boost With Rail-Spur Grant

Earth Biofuels Inc. said Wednesday that the Oklahoma Department of Commerce awarded a $500,000 grant/loan to the city of Durant, Okla., for construction of a rail spur and industrial road to service the company’s biodiesel production facility there.

Earth Biofuels will receive about $500,000 worth of improvements, and has agreed to repay about $130,000 to the city over 20 years.

The production facility is the second biodiesel project for Earth Biofuels, and the company said it expects the plant to begin producing biodiesel there by mid-March. Transport Topics
