PeopleNet Offers Software on Zebra's Rugged Handheld Device

PeopleNet said its mobile fleet-management software is now certified to run on Zebra Technologies’ Symbol TC70 rugged handheld device.

The certification enables fleets to use proprietary applications, third-party programs and PeopleNet software all on the same device, the telematics provider said.

The Android-based TC70 includes a barcode scanner and camera, making it ideal for data capture in the food service and private-fleet industries, PeopleNet said. The device is also designed to withstand drops to concrete and operate reliably in extreme temperatures.

“Not only does the certification of the TC70 give drivers the ability to use a highly durable and functional device, but it allows fleets more choices in selecting the right technology to enable increased efficiencies in their business,” said Tom Fansler, executive vice president at PeopleNet.

PeopleNet made the announcement at the National Private Truck Council’s Education Management Conference and Exhibition in Cincinnati.

Zebra, a supplier of tracking and printing technologies, expanded into the rugged handheld business in 2014 through its acquisition of Motorola Solutions’ Enterprise business unit for $3.45 billion.
