Oil rose almost $1 early Tuesday to a five-week high of more than $95 a barrel, Bloomberg News reported.

Crude futures rose 77 cents to $95.58 in early New York Mercantile Exchange trading, as the Commerce Department reported that durable goods orders rose by the most since September, Bloomberg said.

Oil has not finished a Nymex trading day at more than $95 a barrel since Feb. 19.

Diesel and gasoline retail prices both slid for a fourth straight week, the Department of Energy reported Monday, with diesel declining 4.1 cents to just over $4 a gallon.
