NPTC Honors Hall of Fame Drivers, Safest Fleets

CINCINNATI — The National Private Truck Council named four drivers to its Hall of Fame and presented awards to nine fleets with the lowest number of accidents per million miles traveled in the past year.
Stephens, Renn, keynote speaker Frank Abagnale, Grabowski, Conn

Drivers inducted into the NPTC/Lytx Inc. Hall of Fame are:

• Bradley Conn of Somerset, Pennsylvania, a driver for CVS Transportation Inc.

• Michael Grabowski of Ootleweh, Tennessee, a driver for CPC Logistics assigned to Walgreens

• Arthur Stephens of Mentor, Ohio, a driver for CPC Logistics assigned to Avery Dennison

• Wildon Renn III of Fredericksburg, Pennsylvania, a driver for Contract Transportation Systems, a unit of The Sherwin Williams Co.

Each Hall of Fame recipient has driven a truck accident-free and without any moving violation for at least three decades. Conn followed in the footsteps of his father and started hauling livestock at the age of 16. Grabowski is a Navy veteran and mentors new drivers. Stephens learned to drive on a family farm and has driven 4.95 million miles over 55 years. Renn began driving in 1981 and is a frequent participant and winner in Sherwin Williams’ National Truck Roadeo.

NPTC also recognized fleets for having the best overall safety record in 2015 in four categories. They are:

Local Operations: Blain Supply Inc. and Clinton’s Ditch Coop Co.

Regional Operations: AEP Industries Inc. and American Proteins Inc.

Small Fleet (less than 50 vehicles): FTC Transport and Metal Exchange Corp.

Large Fleet (50 vehicles or more): Hillyard Inc., Baxter Healthcare Supply Chain and J&B Group.

A number of fleets were also recognized for having the most improved safety record in 2015. They include:

• Air Liquide Industrial U.S., ADM Trucking and AEP Industries for having zero accidents in the past year

• ADM Trucking, Frito-Lay Inc., Koch Foods, Orgill Transportation Co. and Walgreen Oshkosh Inc. for reducing their accident frequency rate by 40% or more compared to the prior year.
