Letter to the Editor: Security Devices
could not agree more with Daniel Murray of the American Transportation Research Institute. High-technology security devices have little to no value to most fleet owners unless they can be used with other fleet-optimizing tools.
Mandated security devices and those that support them are publicity stunts for politicians looking to be re-elected and security-device manufacturing hucksters. They create opportunity by building a business on the fears of the American people.
The real business of protecting our homeland is much more complex than putting security devices on trucks. Mandated devices raise transportation costs with little value or real ability to prevent terrorist attacks.
