Kansas City Southern Reports Higher Operating Income for 4Q, Year

Kansas City Southern reported a smaller fourth-quarter profit but said its revenue rose 7%, boosted by strong intermodal volume.

Net income slipped to $91.8 million, or 83 cents per share, from $95.6 million, or 87 cents, a year ago. Operating income improved 15% to $174 million.

Revenue rose 7% to $568 million, the freight railroad said Monday. Intermodal revenue gained 14%.

Full-year net income rose to $377.1 million, or $3.43 per share, from $328.7 million, or $3 per share, in 2011.



Operating income for the year rose 17% to $716 million, and revenue rose 7% to a record $2.2 billion.
