Georgia Shifting Stance On Public-Private Partnerships

The Georgia Department of Transportation has stopped taking unsolicited proposals for public-private partnerships to finance road and tolling projects.

GDOT said in a press release Monday that the state’s General Assembly has mandated that the only P3 projects that will be considered are those solicited by the state.

“The initial law in 2004 was that we could not solicit and only consider unsolicited proposals,” said GDOT spokesman David Spear.

The new law, Spear said, is designed to allow the state and GDOT to “manage the process” of road planning, building and tolling.
