FMCSA Rule 'Unworkable,' Says Movers' Group Leader

he president of the American Moving and Storage Association said the April 5 starting date for a piece of federal consumer regulation is “unworkable” and that the companies he represents would not implement all of the rule’s provisions.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration countered by saying it has provided the moving industry with ample lead time to implement the rule that requires carriers to provide their customers with accurate estimates and written information about rights and responsibilities.

A spokesman said the agency would begin enforcement against serious transgressors starting April 5.



The movers said they would petition for an extension of the deadline, which occurs a month and a half before peak moving season.
