Express Delivery and Logistics Association Merges With CLDA

The Express Delivery and Logistics Association, a trade group that represents air cargo and package delivery firms, has agreed to merge with the Customized Logistics & Delivery Association, according to a joint statement released Jan. 28.

“This merger adds value for both associations, the industry and all participants in today’s supply chain,” said Chuck Moyer, president of Pace Runners Inc. in Nashville, Tenn., and president of CLDA in Washington.

Moyer said the combined association will be better able to work with large shippers in the air cargo industry and will offer members “the ability to expand their knowledge about the entire logistics supply chain.”

Bart Salant, president of the Express Delivery and Logistics Association and president of Paramount Courier Inc., based in New York City, said the move “will enhance our members’ bottom lines, while exponentially expanding their advocacy abilities on regulatory issues.”

“We approached the CLDA about this merger several months ago,” Salant explained, “because we saw it as a dynamic organization that had the ability to represent all sectors of the express cargo business combining agents, airlines and independent air carriers within its structure.”

Three members of the former Express Delivery and Logistics Association will serve on the CLDA board and one will serve on the CLDA executive committee, officials said. The members joining the board are Paramount’s Salant, Nate Geese, executive vice president of MNX Global Logistics, and Ralph Perrothers, president of On The Go Cargo Inc. Perrothers also will serve on the executive committee.

The CLDA has approximately 3,500 members, including logistics professionals, carriers and shippers, drivers, third-party logistics service providers and vendors. The group is set to host its annual Final Mile Forum & Expo in May in Phoenix.

The merger was effective Jan. 21, officials said.

Jim Conway, a former legislative counsel for the Direct Marketing Association and who has served as executive director of the Express Delivery and Logistics Association since 2009, said he has retired as of Dec. 31.
