HL said Tuesday it has launched a new software-based shipping system called EasyShip Professional, designed for use by small and medium-sized businesses.

The system will automate the entire shipping process for customers that prefer to use their own computer hardware, DHL said in a statement.

EasyShip Professional can be installed on a customer's computer to process shipments offline, without a constant Internet connection to DHL servers, the company said.

It will allow storage and retrieval of address information, connectivity options to interface with computer systems, rating and service estimates and will be able to track shipments by bill or customer reference number.

It will also send automated email notifications to customers at the time of shipment, and DHL will offer 24/7 technical support.

DHL Americas is ranked No. 4 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
