ngine maker Detroit Diesel Corp. and truck maker Freightliner LLC said Monday that their joint tests of new truck engines are on track to meet looming 2007 federal emissions standards.

DDC will launch three new engines next year: the heavy- duty Series 60 and MBE 4000, and the medium-duty MBE 900. DDC said the engines’ readiness for Environmental Protection Agency standards next year are rooted in the testing program, which began August.

"The launch of these three engines represents our largest investment ever, and this is in addition to the extensive training and resources we have established to support EPA ’07," said Tim Tindall, DDC’s program director for the 2007 engine line.

etroit Diesel and Freightliner's testing program is comprised of various components, including test cell dynamometers, reliability testing, durability testing, and an extensive customer demonstration program.

In total, across all three engines, more than 24 million test miles will be accumulated before launch in 2007, the two said.

Both DDC and Freightliner are owned by DaimlerChrysler.
