ATRI Seeks Input for Top Issues Survey

Surveys asking industry stakeholders to identify the top issues confronting trucking are available, the American Transportation Research Institute announced July 25.

The nonprofit’s 12th annual issues survey aims to collect the input from trucking leaders on concerns ranging from electronic logging devices, and parking, to the allowable work hours for truckers and safety performance scores for carriers.

Last year, federal hours-of-service policy topped ATRI’s top issues list for motor carriers. That was followed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Compliance, Safety, Accountability scoring program, the shortage of truck drivers, driver retention and truck parking. Last year, Congress directed regulators to review federal HOS policy, and lawmakers also required regulators to take down CSA scores from public view.

Also, in March, ATRI launched a survey to hear from drivers about their concerns with truck parking. The survey aims to gather input about the parking shortage for trucks nationwide.

"In complex times like this, it is critical that we do our part to help ensure a thriving future for the trucking industry," said American Trucking Associations Chairman Pat Thomas, who also is senior vice president of state government affairs for UPS, Inc. "With your participation, we can speak with a collective industry voice on the issues most important to us."

ATRI will announce the results of the survey at ATA’s annual Management Conference & Exhibition in Las Vegas during Oct. 1-4.
