Diesel Jumps 6.3¢ to $2.991 a Gallon
Spurred by higher oil prices, diesel’s national average retail price rose for a third straight week, jumping 6.3 cents to $2.991 a gallon, its biggest increase in four months, the Department of Energy said.

While the trucking industry waits for the Obama administration to complete its review of a new hours-of-service proposal, executives with some of the nation’s largest fleets warned that a cut in driving time would result in higher consumer costs, reduced efficiency and increased pollution.

Caterpillar Sued Over Heavy-Duty Engines
 
Three trucking companies are suing Caterpillar Inc. over the sale of what their legal counsel says are “defective” 13- and 15- liter diesel engines for heavy-duty trucks. The Texas law firm representing the companies now is looking for fleets to join the litigation.
Productivity Rate Declines in Second Quarter
U.S. workers’ productivity decreased second-quarter, the first drop since the end of 2008, the Labor Department said Tuesday.
Wholesale Inventories Rise in June
Wholesale inventories rose 0.1% in June, while sales fell, the Commerce Department said Tuesday.
