The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced Sept. 6 it will give high-tech firms $2.5 million to test technologies aimed at preventing a truck carrying hazardous materials from being used in a terrorist attack.

Trucking matters like road congestion that were of primary concern as 2001 began were largely put aside by the issue of security immediately after the September terrorist attacks.
