Xata Reports Wider Fiscal 1Q Loss

Xata Corp. on Thursday reported a fiscal first quarter loss of $1.7 million, or 16 cents per share, compared to a loss of $85,000, or one cent, a year ago.

The supplier of in-cab communications equipment and software said its revenue rose to $16.6 million, from $14 million a year earlier.

The company said software sales rose 3% to $11.7 million. Software revenue accounted for 70% of total revenue, compared with 81% for the same period a year earlier, the company said.

Xata added that it acquired 54 new customers in the first quarter with the majority selecting its Xata Turnpike product.

Sales of hardware systems rose to $4.5 million in the first quarter, compared to $1.7 million a year ago. The increase was driven by increased adoption of the X5 hardware platform as customers invest in XataNet, the company said.
