Western Star Offers Backup Camera, Radar Options

Truck maker Western Star announced it is offering 3rd Eye’s backup cameras and radar option packages factory-installed on its vehicles.

The camera system records and transmits driver behavior, chassis and body systems data, vehicle surroundings and live video in real time, according to Portland, Ore.-based Western Star, a brand of Daimler Trucks North America.

“The need for safety is extremely important for Western Star customers. Keeping drivers safe on the job, including the people working in and around the trucks, is paramount for all industries,” John Tomlinson, Western Star’s vocational sales manager, said in a statement.

All data is transmitted to fleet owners through one connection, intended to cut down wire bundle clutter and simplify installation, maintenance and data dissemination.

The options can be ordered at dealerships using data codes.

3rd Eye is a unit of Dover Co.
