Velocity Appoints McAlpin President

Express package carrier Velocity Express, Westport, Conn., said it has appointed John McAlpin as president and chief operating officer.

McAlpin will be responsible for day-to-day operations at Velocity, the company said in a statement. Velocity did not respond to requests for comment from Transport Topics.

McAlpin most recently was head of operations for Newgistics Inc., an Austin, Texas, company that provides U.S. Postal Service-based parcel delivery and return delivery services.

Velocity identified Newgistics as a “key customer.”

Before he joined Newgistics in 2004, McAlpin was vice president and general manager of the supply chain services unit of Flextronics International.

McAlpin succeeds Vince Wasik, Velocity’s former chief executive officer, who will remain with the firm as the nonexecutive chairman of the board.

Velocity filed for bankruptcy in September and exited in November.
