he Virginia House of Delegates on Thursday approved a series of initiatives that would provide $2.4 billion in funds for transportation projects, but the proposal is likely to be defeated in the state senate, the Washington Post reported.

Virginia legislators convened on Wednesday for a special session to resolve lingering transportation funding issues, which had stalled approval of the state’s budget for more than three months, the Post said.

House delegates, seeking to avoid a tax hike, argue that funds for transportation should be raised through the sale of bonds, while Virginia senators, opposed to borrowing money to raise the funds, favor increased taxes to pay for transportation improvements, the Post reported.
