he U.S. trade deficit grew to a record $66.1 billion in September, as crude oil prices surged and exports dropped by the most in four years, the Commerce Department reported Thursday.

The record gap followed a revised $59.3 billion deficit in August, the Commerce Department said.

The United States imported a record $23.8 billion on oil, Commerce said.

The deficit exceeded economists’ forecast of a $61.5 billion trade gap, Bloomberg reported.
