UPS Inc. is opening two new package-distribution facilities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

One building, nicknamed Independence, is located in Fort Worth. It will create about 50 truck driver positions and more than 300 package handling jobs.

The 495,000-square-foot building will serve customers in North Tarrant and South Denton counties.

The other facility, formerly occupied by Blockbuster in McKinney, is 215,000 square feet. It will bring about 120 full-time jobs and 200 part-time positions to the area.

“We are honored to have the world's leading package-delivery company and a global leader in supply chain solutions land in McKinney,” Mayor Brian Loughmiller said in a statement. “UPS is consistently recognized for ‘going the extra mile,’ and we look forward to having such a great company in our community.”

UPS said it expects to complete modifications to the buildings and be ready for operations by November. UPS ranks No. 1 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
