.S. freight volume has been “well ahead” of expectations in the second quarter, executives of UPS Inc. said Wednesday.

The officials, who met with investors and analysts in New York, said they expected international export volume to climb at a double-digit rate, UPS said in a statement.

“Momentum in the U.S. domestic business is visible in the early weeks of this quarter, said Chief Financial Officer Scott Davis. “Through the first week of May, we are well ahead of our 2% guidance for total volume growth.”

Company officials reaffirmed projections of 16% to 20% growth in net income this year over last year.
